PHUKET “THE PEARL OF ANDAMAN”

Phuket is the country’s largest island. With in area of 540 square km., it is about the size of Singapore. It’s about 50 km. long and 20 km. wide. And all the attributes of a fascinating tropical destination : white powdery beaches, tranquil broad bays, tropical in-land forests, lot of beautiful island and crystal blue sea water. The population of Phuket is about 350,000 peoples. There is 2 seasons that is rainy season start from June to November and summer season start from December to May. There are a  lot of industries in Phuket such as rubber industry, pearl farm, tin mining, Seafood industry and Tourism Industry. So Phuket is one of the place to learn more by yourself.

HISTORY
           Most geologists believe that the area known as Phuket today was once a cape that extended into the Andaman Sea.

            A famous Greek philosopher, Claudius  Ptolemy, mentioned the cape in his book written in the year 157. The cape was locally referred to a Jung Ceylon. Natives call the place “Chalang”, Which evolved to “Tha Lang” – the name of  the main town to the north of the island. During the monsoons for many year Tha Lang became one island of the south of Thailand

            The word Phuket was formerly believed to have come from the Malayan word Bukit, which means a mountain. However, it has recently been discovered that Phuket is actually a Thai word meaning a mountain (phu) of jewel (ket).

            Phuket was only noted for its rich tin ores, from which its wealth was derived. Today, it is better known as a tourist paradise, a most rewarding place for holiday makers. Fantastic under sea scenery, Phuket-the Peal of the South-entices many travelers to visit her again and again.
